Where do your positive feelings about yourself come from? Do you connect your self-worth to the opinions of other people? Do you find yourself doing too much to gain the acceptance of others?

Just as our score on the playing field or golf course is not your success in the game PLUS your success in life, your “score” in life should not be your performance PLUS the opinions of others. The only person who has the right to give you a “score” is yourself.
There are two ways we can navigate through our life. We can focus our efforts on our spirit (human being) or on our mind (human doing). The spirit will guide us more toward our soul while the mind will connect us to our head – getting things done. Both of these are necessary to live a complete, fulfilled life. The challenge comes in the balance of the two.
“Treasure yourself for being, not doing.”
Gina Greenlee
If we look to our souls for the purpose in life, and use our heads to accomplish our goals, the symmetry can occur. We need to be introspective and not afraid to look toward our soul to find our passions and what drives us. We then need to use our head to figure out the steps we should take to accomplish these goals. It really is that easy. Look deep inside yourself to determine your dreams and decide what you can do every day to get there. Try writing these necessary steps in a planner or calendar to keep yourself accountable.

Now, while it seems so easy, there are a lot of competing thoughts and emotions in our mind that will get in the way. They will influence how we live our lives and the decisions we make. Be aware that the thoughts you have, your perceptions of the world, and your choices are many times governed by these emotions.
Some emotions can be
- happiness
- anger
- love
- fear
- disgust
- surprise
- sadness
While all of these will effect our decisions, fear is probably the most influential. Most of us are afraid of moving outside the norm and working toward our goals. We may be afraid of failure, afraid of what others will think of us, or afraid of how success may change our relationships. Allowing this fear to stop you, prohibits your allowing positive emotions to take control.
If, instead, we work from the emotion of love, we open ourselves up to the infinite possibilities of the soul. If the steps we take every day, are done with love, then they will be effortless. If they are born from fear, they will seem like drudgery and work.
“Living, there is no happiness in that. Living: carrying one’s painful self through the world. But being, being is happiness. Being: Becoming a fountain, a fountain on which the universe falls like warm rain.”
Milan Kundera, Immortality
Don’t be afraid to be a Human Being. It is by surrendering to your true purpose in life that you will find your true greatness. You will discover your purpose and a fulfillment beyond your wildest dreams.
