If we stop and think, we are all a part of many different communities throughout our lives. Communities can include our families, neighborhood, schools, churches, temples, book clubs, workplaces, and so many more. These “places” make us feel welcome and included. As human beings, we need a sense of belonging, and that sense of belonging is what connects us to the many relationships we develop.

The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.
Coretta Scott King
A community can be anything from a physical place where geographically people connect, or via a virtual space such as social media groups or private community platforms. Communities bring like-minded people together with similar characteristics and common interests. Being a part of a community can make us feel as though we are a part of something greater than ourselves.
Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.
Paul Ryan

There are so many positive aspects to being part of a group or community. Here are some benefits:
Fortification: Being part of a community enables us to give support to other members. Being supportive of others will help them to feel good and better about themselves. With so much stress in the busy world we live in, there’s never been a more important time to help others struggling with their mental and physical wellbeing.
Empowerment: With community participation comes empowerment. When people feel empowered, they feel a sense of control enabling them to influence positive change.
Sharing: Brainstorming stimulates innovation and growth. Ideas breed new ideas. Apart from having personal benefits of gaining knowledge and insight, sharing also contributes to the community’s greater worth.
Rewards: Being a part of a community can be an effective learning tool to encourage desirable behaviors and provide motivation. By doing so, it builds positive rewards and reinforcement for an enjoyable sense of togetherness.
Connections: Connecting with new people is what builds valuable relationships, and gives us a deeper sense of belonging. It helps us to reach our goals, and brings a sense of security. New connections are also an invaluable resource for new knowledge and sharing your passion with others.
My father used to have an expression. He’d say, ‘Joey, a job is about a lot more than a paycheck. It’s about your dignity. It’s about respect. It’s about your place in your community.’
Joe Biden
Whether it is a virtual community or physical connection, being a part of a community will help you to live your best life.
