Keep Calm

We do not have control over the events that are happening in the world around us, but we do have control over the way we react to these events.  We have control over our internal thoughts and external behaviors that can help us to remain calm.

Be like a duck. Calm on the surface, but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Michael Caine

These are all benefits for your own life but there is also a benefit to those around you.  When you are calm and in control of your emotions, there is a tranquil effect on those people around you.  Imagine reacting to someone’s lateness with patience, or someone’s mistake with humor.  Being calm and peaceful radiates from you onto those people who surround you.

Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset.

What are some things you can do to help achieve this calmness:

  • Meditation
  • Forgive others
  • Slow down
  • Unplug from devices
  • Ride the wave of emotions but don’t get sucked under
  • Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed
  • Work in time every day to relax

When adversity strikes, that’s when you have to be the most calm. Take a step back, stay strong, stay grounded and press on.

People who remain calm under pressure tend to achieve their goals and are more successful. Calm people do not run around like a chicken without a head during a crisis. Rather, they are focused and able to quickly assess any situation and discover what they can do to effect positive change.  Calm people are also able to assess how they need help in order to accomplish the task.  Most importantly, they get the job done with everyone involved feeling positive, serene, and peaceful.
